About the Class:

STEM is a specials class for all 5th graders at DCIS and an elective class for 6th graders.
All 5th graders attend STEM class as part of our seven day specials rotation throughout the school year. 6th graders who enroll in the STEM elective attend daily for an entire quarter.

STEM class will consist of a variety of activities to help students learn about science, technology, engineering, and math. Students will participate in engineering design challenges, create projects with STEM apps and websites, and learn about coding, computational thinking, and robotics.

STEM challenges engage students in hands-on problem-solving, critical thinking, creativity, innovation, and collaboration, and teach students resilience and persistence in the face of frustration or failure.

About Mrs. Phillips:

I graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a BS in Education and am currently working on my Master's Degree in Instructional Design and Technology online at Emporia State University in Kansas.

I taught 4th and 5th grade for 6 years at Dennis Elementary in Putnam City. I moved to Texas in 2000 and became an Instructional Technology Coach in Grapevine-Colleyville ISD. I provided staff development in technology integration and worked with teachers and students to transform their classrooms. I'm a Google Certified Educator and a Microsoft Innovative Educator Trainer.

My husband, son and I moved back to Oklahoma two years ago, and are excited to be a part of the Deer Creek family!
