Meet the Teacher...

Meredith Mayernik

Welcome to another great school year at Deer Creek Intermediate School.  I have taught school for the past twenty years.  I taught fourth grade in Arlington, Texas, for four years.  The last sixteen years, I have taught fifth grade at Putnam City Central Intermediate, Nichols Hills Elementary, five years at Deer Creek Elementary, three years at Grove Elementary, and now, six years at the fabulous DCIS.

I spent three years at the University of Oklahoma and enjoyed cheerleading for the Sooners, and time in my Chi-Omega sorority.  Upon graduation, I spent my final year at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, and graduated with my degrees in Elementary and Early Childhood Education.  In 2011, I graduated from UCO with my Masters in Administration and received my Educational Leadership degree (K-12 Administration).  In the future, I would love to utilize my new degree and advance to an administrative position.

You may have seen me in the newspaper as I have been acknowledged for my creative ways in which I teach Math and Science, and was also published in the Daily Oklahoman for the innovative way in which I teach Writing.  I have also been a past recipient and participant in the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence Colonial Williamsburg Summer Institute.  I also served on the Deer Creek Elementary Grant Writing team.  The amazing efforts of the team won the school an $80,000 grant from the OETT.  I was also honored as the NBA’s Teacher of the Quarter and featured in the National Basketball Association’s magazine.  In 2012, I was recognized as DCIS's first Teacher of Year.  This was an amazing honor.

My love for Math, Science and Technology took me away from teaching for one year as I learned all about the oil and gas industry while at Chesapeake Energy.  But my passion for the classroom, and the opportunity to be a part of this wonderful school district, brought me back to what I love the most.  I love that I am able to teach Information Technology classes to both fifth and sixth grade students.

My husband, Cory and I, had a beautiful wedding with family and friends in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, and just celebrated our six year anniversary.  He is an Independent Landman and loves his job.  We had our first little girl in November of 2014 and our second little girl in February of 2016. Our girls are 14 1/2 months apart and our lives are super busy and super blessed. They are the apples of our eyes!  I love to cook, travel and OU Sports… Boomer Sooner!  Above all, I LOVE to see my favorite DCIS Antlers every day.  I am looking forward to a fabulous new school year at Deer Creek Intermediate School!
